MAC’s lipsticks are some of my favorite! I own a couple of them from their matte line, and I’ve tried some of their cremesheens. However, my favorite formula has to be their satin finish. MAC’s satin lipsticks are semi-matte, so they aren’t as drying as completely matte ones, but they still offer the same amount of pigmentation.

Del Rio is described as a “muted plum brown” on MAC’s website. I would’ve never picked it up had the salesperson not recommended it. I had asked for a neutral everyday lipstick, something that looked like my lips but better. I have to say that the salesperson delivered!

In the tube, Del Rio looks a little dark to be “my lips but better”.

It looks super red-toned here. I think it looks much cooler toned in person.

My natural lip color for reference

If I dab a thin layer on my lips, I get a nice pink-brown tone that looks natural.

A light application, done in dabbing motions rather than sweeping.

You get full pigmentation with just one layer. It has a somewhat red undertone, not so much of the “plum” that MAC describes it as. I don’t know if it’s just me, but when I think of plum, I think of a more purple based color. The red undertone looks more pronounced on lighter skin tones.

One slightly messy layer of Del Rio. You can be neater than I am lol.

The color is neutral enough to go with a variety of eye looks, especially when worn as a light tint. It also wears well, so I don’t end up with funny looking lipstick after a dinner out with friends. I find that it easily lasts through 4 or 5 hours, and sometimes even more if I’m not constantly wiping at my lips during meals.

The lipstick can be made to look more matte with a lip liner underneath, or it can be worn glossy. I love wearing it glossy, but the lipstick bleeds a little if I’m overzealous with lip balm. This usually doesn’t bother me because it bleeds evenly and looks like I intentionally over lined my lips.

I’d be lying if I said that this isn’t the first product I reach for on a daily basis. I’ve been using it for a few years now, and it’s definitely my favorite lipstick!

Rating: 5/5 for longevity, comfortable formula, and color.

  1. That’s a gorgeous color on you! You can deepen the shade for night time wear. I love MAC lipsticks, they do not disappoint. On another note, I tried the Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution lipstick last week for the first time, and was not impressed at all, so I returned it and went back to. MAC! What would we do without our favorite lipsticks?
